The DAESA is responsible for delivering fire protection and emergency medical services to the City of DeWitt as well as Olive and Riley Townships.

Campfire Guidelines

Cooking/Campfires are permitted for everyone and are allowed in the City of DeWitt, however, the following guidelines must be followed:

  • Must be NO larger than 4 feet in diameter and 3 feet in height.
  • Any burning shall occur at 25 feet from any structure and property line and shall be at the rear of the property away from any roadway and sidewalk unless the fire is in an above-ground commercially manufactured fire receptacle not modified from its original purpose, or in a masonry fireplace made for outdoor burning.
  • All fires must be out by Midnight, no burning from Midnight to 6 a.m.
  • Only clean firewood free of leaves may be burned.
  • Must be supervised by an adult at all times.
  • No fires if wind speed exceeds 10 mph.

Olive & Riley Township Burn Permits

Burn permits may be obtained at the DAESA Station 1 (911 W. Main St. DeWitt, MI 48820), Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (closed holidays), and on select days and times from the Olive Township (www.olivetwp.org) and Riley Township (www.rileytownshipclintoncountymichigan.com) offices. 

The permit does not expire but isn’t transferable to a new owner of the property. New owners must re-apply for a permit
